Dedicated to his mother, Donda West, who passed away in 2007, the hip-hop visionary named his line “Dw,” and hoped to shirk the “celebrity” off of the title “designer” and be respected by his peers and the fashion industry. Models Chanel Iman, who closed the runway show, Anja Rubik, Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn strutted down the catwalk in dazzling looks I’ve coined “hip-hop luxe,” to the sounds of Waka Flocka Flame’s “Hard in da Paint” and Common’s “The Light.” Kanye’s celebrity friends, like Lindsay Lohan, Ciara, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Terry Richardson, Mr. Hudson, Alexander Wang, Jeremy Scott, Sky Ferreira, Carine Roitfeld, Vogue‘s Editor In Chief Anna Wintour, Jared Leto, Joseph Altuzarra and Dsquared‘s Dean and Dan Caton, littered the front row and many gave their approval. “He did a great job,” said Ciara to the Associated Press. “Especially since for me, it’s so cool to see someone come from our music world and do something like this. It’s really hard. I walked away from this show feeling like I would love to wear this line. There is so much in it that’s right up my alley.” A clear fan, Ciara later tweeted, “KANYE is A GENIUS- TONIGHT was MONUMENTAL.”

FORBES RANK TYLER PERRY 'HOLLYWOOD'S BIG DOG!' http://www.udubnews.com/article.php?id=4372 2011-09-16
Thanks to his films, tv shows and plays..and Madea...Tyler Perry has landed atop FORBES list of highest earning men in Hollywood. Alexis D. Simpson turned herself just after midnight after Dominique T. Frazier, 18, was found in a hallway of her dorm, unconscious and bleeding profusely from her torso earlier Thursday night, the Baltimore Sun reported. Frazier died an hour later. The crime shocked the small, historically black college in Maryland, which cancelled classes on Friday. Simpson left campus after the stabbing, but turned herself into Prince George's County Police. She was charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond, CBS News reported. Hundreds of Bowie State students attended a memorial service Friday and formed an impromptu prayer circle. Damial Fletcher, 19, a friend of the victim, told the Sun that Frazier was outgoing and well liked. "If you were having the worst day of your life, she’d just make you laugh," he said. Simpson was a transfer student while Frazier was a second-year student. Both were business administration majors. The two had been fighting for days, WUSA TV reported, and had already begun the process of petitioning for new roommates. "It's not worth the stupid argument over something so little," Fletcher told WUSA. "They don't understand. Little things can mess up your entire life. Just talk about it. Don’t resort to violence. It’s not worth it."

SNOOP DOGG TO PLAY FILLMORE SLIM: http://www.udubnews.com/article.php?id=4370 2011-09-16
Rapper and actor Snoop Dogg will be portraying legendary blues guitarist and “the pope of pimping,” Fillmore Slim in a biopic that will be released by Ames Universal and SRI Entertainment in late 2012 titled "The Legend of Fillmore Slim." Aside from a number of smaller film and TV projects he has worked on, this will be Snoop’s first major movie role since 2005’s "The Tenants," which he starred in with Dylan McDermott. Hawthorne James will direct the film from a script written by co-producer Alan Ames and Carole Parker. "The Legend of Fillmore Slim" is currently in the pre-production stage and is set to begin filming in March. When asked about the film, co-producer Ames explained, “This film will span decades, from Slim’s emergence as a musician, to his fascination with the fast life, through his years of incarceration and his redemption.” Fillmore Slim is a blues singer and guitar player who was also a “highly renowned pimp” in San Francisco during the 1960’s and 70’s. During his early musical career he opened for B.B. King and Dinah Washington and even had a short relationship with legendary singer Etta James. Eventually, the pimping game took hold of Fillmore and he became one of the most prolific and talked about pimps in the country employing between 8,000 and 9,000 prostitutes. After a return to music in the 1980’s while he was still pimping, Fillmore was incarcerated for five years. He took this time to enhance his skills, and upon his release, he decided to focus solely on music. The 76-year-old legend has put out five albums since his release from prison and is still recording music today.

COMCAST: CLOSING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE IN DETROIT http://www.udubnews.com/article.php?id=4369 2011-09-16
Hoping to bridge the technological divide among Detroit youth, Comcast announced Friday a statewide program offering discounted high-speed Internet service and affordable computers for low-income families. Broadband Internet is now available for $9.95 a month plus tax to any family with children who receive free or reduced lunch as long as they are in Comcast's service area. Eligible families also have the opportunity to purchase a netbook computer for just $149.99. "The Internet is not a luxury," said Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, one of several elected officials lauding the program during a press conference at Detroit's Focus: HOPE charity on Friday. "The Internet is essential, and it's essential for every child." The initiative, "Internet Essentials," will also provide digital literacy training to eligible families at Focus: HOPE using a $25,000 grant from the Comcast Foundation. "I think it's amazing," said Jeri Shellman of Detroit, mother of a senior at Plymouth Preparatory High School. "It was a long time coming because everything happens online." With Friday's announcement, Michigan joins a nationwide program serving 39 states, including Washington D.C. Various community groups have already gone door-to-door to promote the program. Comcast will also make separate announcements in Flint, Grand Rapids and Inkster over the next week. "It was really important that we made (internet) as affordable as possible," said Bret Perkins, vice president of external and government affairs for Comcast. "We know that we can make a difference in closing the digital divide."

THE $200,000 LUNCH FROM HELL: http://www.udubnews.com/article.php?id=4368 2011-09-16
A 20-year-old Irishman had a $200,000 lunch -- and now he might have to pay. According to TheSmokingGun.com, defense lawyers for James Rosemond received detailed shipping records showing that Interscope's Los Angeles office was used to pick up drugs and cash, stuffed in road cases used to ship musical equipment. Prosecutors are trying to determine why and how Interscope's offices were used, although they are aware that Rosemond manages rapper Game, who is signed to Interscope. Investigators claim that Rosemond used Rock It Cargo, to deliver kilos of cocaine from Los Angeles to New York, where the cocaine was distributed. The proceeds were then packed in the music cases and sent back to music studios in Los Angeles. According to the TSG, a number of Rosemond's former associates are cooperating and are explaining how the cash and cocaine shipped cross-country. Investigators claim that Rosemond used his Czar Entertainment as a legitimate front, and then utilized Rock It drugs disguised as legitimate freight. James "Jimmy Henchman" Rosemond is currently being held in Metropolitan Correctional Center without bail.

WEED FARMS IN VEGAS: http://www.udubnews.com/article.php?id=4365 2011-08-25
Growing marijuana in the desert? Outdoor marijuana farms, once thought to be an ill-suited crop for our dry climate, have been springing up in the mountains surrounding the Las Vegas Valley. Authorities destroyed a 4-acre pot farm on Wednesday. In the past two months, they have identified six or seven additional farms in Clark County that are slated for removal. The pot is typically planted in the spring and harvested in October, contingent on weather, he said. Afterward, the pot will be shipped to the East Coast, where a one-pound plant can be sold for upwards of $3,000, he said. Las Vegas authorities recently consulted with experts in Sacramento, Calif., on the subject after the farms were discovered. Although seven farms seems like a high number, police speculates that as many as 40 farms could be hidden in the Las Vegas Valley, and not just in the mountains. In April, a large pot farm with a worth in the millions of dollars was discovered in Moapa, where the temperature can get even hotter than in Las Vegas.

NEW 'OFFICIALLY' ADDED WORDS: http://www.udubnews.com/article.php?id=4364 2011-08-25
Merriam-Webster Inc. has added dozens of entries to the latest edition of its Collegiate Dictionary. Police and politicians claim young criminals used Facebook, Twitter and Blackberry's simple and largely cost-free messaging service to coordinate looting sprees during riots in England this month, and Prime Minister David Cameron has said police and intelligence services are looking at whether there should be limits on the use of social media sites or services like BlackBerry Messenger in times of disorder. Civil libertarians have reacted with alarm to suggestions the services could be shut down in times of crisis. A Home Office spokeswoman said there was "no suggestion" the sites would be closed down. Facebook said it already took down threats of violence and other offending material, and was working on making the process speedier. "We look forward to meeting with the home secretary to explain the measures we have been taking to ensure that Facebook is a safe and positive platform for people in the UK at this challenging time," the company said in a statement. Several people have been charged with using social media to incite riots, including two men who were jailed for four years each for using Facebook to "organize and orchestrate" disorder. The riots the two called for never happened. Police said they sent officers to protect major London shopping centers and the 2012 Olympics sites after intercepting messages on Twitter and BlackBerry Messenger saying they were targets for rioters.

WE REMEMBER YOU: Aaliyah http://www.udubnews.com/article.php?id=4361 2011-08-25
Ten years ago today, music lost an angel when Aaliyah Dana Haughton was killed in an airplane crash en route from the Bahamas to Florida. After appearing in concerts with Gladys Knight at age 11, the R&B songstress signed to her uncle’s Blackground Records, who released the then 15-year-old’s debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number, in 1994. Written by mentor R. Kelly, the album’s mix of traditional R&B and New Jack Swing helped Aaliyah sell more than 3 million albums and make her an instant star. 1996’s One in a Million and 2001’s Aaliyah would follow, but despite leaving behind a scant catalog, the singer’s immutable grace and soulful vocals made her one of R&B’s most respected artists.
