OPEN LETTER TO MAINSTREAM MEDIA: |
Posted on 2009-07-01 |
| In yesterday's sitdown interview with Rev Al Sharpton, he made several interesting observations about Michael Jackson. First, Sharpton explained the concept that the black community is surprisingly supporting Jackson after years of turning their backs on him is just utterly foolish, on the heels of a NY Times report on the aforementioned topic. Sharpton says mainstream media is just now "playing catch up." Secondly, the Rev maintained that it is irrelevant whether or not Jackson was the biological father of his three children, because he was the only dad they've known, blood and DNA notwithstanding: would we say that Diddy is not young Al B Sure's dad or that various rappers raised by their stepfathers had less of a connection (interesting note: MJ named his mother as the guardian along with Diana Ross)? Sharpton concluded that although Jackson was praised throughout the duration of his life and later ridiculed, he's no longer here to defend himself. A celebration of the legacy of the world's greatest entertainer is only fitting. Nothing less. |

GOING HOME: |

| This weekend's 4th of July holiday will be repurposed as the first of many homegoings for pop icon Michael Jackson. Less than 24 hours ago, the Jackson family announced plans to hold a public viewing for fans at the Neverland Ranch followed by a more private memorial service on Sunday. Yesterday, family friend Rev Al Sharpton told UDubNews the Jackson family is still discussing final plans for Michael's funeral. |

NOT LETTING GO: |

| Legendary music mogul Quincy Jones won't let VIBE magazine shut its doors without a fight. The publication's founder is reportedly willing to step in and save the sinking ship after yesterday's announcement that the mag was folding: "Print and all that stuff is over, we gotta remember that. The Chicago Tribune, The Seattle Post Intelligencer. The Miami Herald. They're over the same way as the record business. We have got to get into this century." |
